At least 23 people have died in the last hours in Alexandria

At least 23 people have died in the last hours in the Egyptian city of Alexandria, presumably for political protests that escalated yesterday, as the Qatari TV station Al Jazeera. With this figure, the victims of Cairo and the city of Suez, amounts to more than fifty the number of people killed during the day Friday, when the Egyptians took to the streets against the regime of Hosni Mubarak. The known death toll last night indicated that the riots had died in Cairo at least 16 people and Suez, the southern entrance to the channel of the same name, between 11 and 13 more.

Victims of Alexandria, according to Al Jazeera, were in the morgue of the city and most had bullet wounds, so it thinks the TV channel that his death was due to clashes between demonstrators and police. Greater Cairo, Alexandria and Suez were last night under curfew, in force since 18.00 o’ clock local time (16.00 GMT) until 07.00. Still, at least in Cairo thousands of people defied the measure and continued on the street overnight.

The most serious clashes between protesters and police occurred on Friday afternoon, but after curfew, police forces were dropped in many parts of the Cairo and Alexandria. In the capital, monitoring at strategic places has been in charge of the Army, he received orders to deploy to support the police, according to a decree signed last night by Mubarak.
